Press Release
Contact: Mike Collier,
Chairman, Bossier Republican Parish Executive Committee 965-4242
The Republican Parish Executive Committee of Bossier Parish (RPEC) urges voters to go to the polls on Saturday, April 21st and vote NO to all three proposed taxes on the ballot.
RPEC, the governing authority of the Republican Party in Bossier Parish, is against any government entity overspending during uncertain economic times, due to a depressed economy and inflated prices, both nationally and locally. Our values include smaller government, lower taxes, a strong national defense, personal freedom, the constitution and bill of rights.
The current bond issues, proposed by the Bossier Parish School Board (BPSB), are not supported by the RPEC. While our political party is supportive of teachers and technology, the timing for the BPSB proposals is questionable. Overall, the plan does not appear to be cohesive or well thought out. In addition, it fails to consider the recent state education reform.
Consider the vague plan for a technical school, which could lead to a duplication of services and infrastructure, in which taxpayers have already invested. This cost is unnecessary and would be redundant due to successful worker training presently offered by Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC). A simple partnership with the excellent staff and facility of BPCC would negate the need for a substantial portion of the proposed April 21st stimulus package.
After careful review, we oppose this tax increase because:
- The student teacher ratio is not addressed and no provision is made to fund staffing for new schools.
- Exit strategy from consent decree is not addressed.
- A pay raise negated by an increase in property tax and cost of living is not a raise.
- Deficit spending.
- The needs of Barksdale Air Force Base have not been adequately addressed and in writing.
- Underutilization of existing facilities.
The BPSB has shown a lack of fiscal restraint by insisting on a special election date for these propositions. The cost of the special election on April 21st will be well over $85,000. In addition to this cost, BPSB recently hired a director of communications and public relations, to sell this bond proposal to the tax payers and rally teachers and other personnel to support the issue and get out the vote. A qualified school board member or supervisor was surely capable of explaining this tax increase. This is an example of mismanagement of limited resources.
BPSB has proposed nothing to address the current operating deficit. Until they do, there should be no vague attempts to raise taxes on residents. We agree with the Bossier Chamber of Commerce that this tax will hurt small business and will inflate costs for commercial and residential occupants of real estate.
The Bossier RPEC urges voters to go to the polls on Saturday, April 21st and vote NO to all three proposed taxes on the ballot. If passed, your property tax will increase from one of the lowest in the state to one of the highest. |

Dear Louisiana Republicans:
The Republican National Committee met in New Orleans on Friday and cleared the way for states like Louisiana to bind delegates to presidential candidates according to the results of presidential primaries. This ruling confirmed our ability to move forward under our current rules.
The RNC has also ruled that Louisiana must conduct delegate elections in its six new congressional districts instead of the seven current districts. This action deprived our state of three additional delegates that we feel we are entitled to. We were disappointed by this decision.
Regardless, it is now time to move forward with our delegate selection process.
The Republican Party of Louisiana will conduct congressional district caucuses on Saturday, April 28, 2012 for the purpose of electing delegates to the Louisiana Republican State Convention. Delegates to the Republican National Convention will be elected by the State Convention on June 2nd in Shreveport.
Louisiana voters affiliated with the Republican Party on or before December 15, 2011 are eligible to participate in the caucuses.
Caucus voting will be conducted between 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon. Any qualified voter who is in line at noon will be allowed to vote. Voters are not required to stay for a meeting in order to vote. Voters will elect 25 delegates and 12 alternates from their new congressional districts. Each person may cast votes for up to 25 candidates for delegate and up to 12 candidates for alternate.
In order to run for state convention delegate or alternate, candidates must qualify with the Republican Party of Louisiana. There will be two methods of qualifying. Those who desire to qualify online may do so on April 10-12, 2012. Online qualifying will end at 5:00 p.m. on April 12th. Names of candidates who qualify online will be listed online so that they may verify that their registrations have been received. Those who do not want to register online and those wishing to pay for one or more candidates by check may deliver registration forms and checks in person on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at Republican Party of Louisiana Headquarters, 530 Lakeland Drive, Suite 215, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The registration fee for a candidate for state convention delegate is $200. The fee to run for alternate is $75. Qualifying forms and caucus locations will be published in the weeks ahead.
Voters will be assigned to one of approximately 30 voting sites across Louisiana. In most cases, entire parishes will be assigned to one site. At some sites, voters from more than one congressional district will vote. When voters sign in, they will be provided the appropriate ballot for their congressional district. Voters are required to provide a photo ID in order to obtain a ballot. Voter registration cards are not required for check in, but we encourage voters to bring one in case there is any question about their eligibility to participate.
Delegates and alternates to the Republican National Convention will be selected on June 2, 2012 at the Louisiana Republican State Convention in Shreveport by state convention delegates. It is not necessary to be a state convention delegate in order to be elected as a national convention delegate. Qualifying procedures for national delegate and alternate will be announced at a later date.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Roger F. Villere, Jr. Chairman

August 11, 2009 Bringing New Jobs and a World-Class Facility to Louisiana Following a multitude of economic wins over the past year, which have, as written by the Alexandria Town Talk, "injected Louisiana into the dreams of everyone who toils in the competitive world of economic development," we welcomed the announcement of ConAgra Foods Lame Weston's new facility to Delhi last week. This is yet another example, following the creation of new jobs by the V-Vehicle Company, the Shaw Group, and others, of how our state continues to outperform the national economy.
The new $210 million state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly sweet potato processing facility marks another huge victory for our state. As the Monroe News-Star wrote, "It will become the largest private-sector employer in Richland Parish, one of the top 10 in the region and one of the state's top companies." LSU has estimated that ConAgra's new facility will bring more than $2 billion in new economic output through 2005.
For decades now, we have seen the commodities produced in our state, from crops to chemicals, shipped to other states for processing and then returned to our state at a higher price. Now, we are creating jobs for our people and keeping resources in state – showing that we are more than capable of competing around the world.
The aggressive steps we have taken to ramp up our state's workforce development programs, cut burdensome business taxes, and highlight the unique qualities that make Louisiana the greatest place in the world. We will continue to bring innovative and world-class facilities to our state, as evidenced by Lamb Weston's President's quote in the News-Star that, "This is not an average facility. We're looking at it as a benchmark for where we will go in our industry." Read More » Activating Global Strike Command I traveled to Barksdale Air Force Base last week to mark the activation of the new Global Strike Command at the base. The command will unify the Air Force's nuclear disarmament and global strike missions, and symbolizes the military's commitment to Northwest Louisiana for years to come.
We took great steps to improve and invest in the area around the base, including $107 million for transportation, facilities, and other infrastructure projects to support increased activity at Barksdale. And as a return on this investment, as KSLA reported, "Global Strike…gives Northwest Louisiana a shot in its economic arm with nearly 1,000 direct jobs."
Barksdale is an important component of our state's economy, and we will continue working to bring even more opportunities to the base. Louisiana has had a strong connection with our armed forces for decades, be it at Fort Polk, Federal City in New Orleans, or Barksdale, and this partnership will continue to years to come. Read More » Taking the Right Steps to Reforming our Health Care System Over the past few months, Democrats in Washington, led the President, have attempted to reform our health care system in a way that will just not work. To create a government subsidized health plan would only ensure that, as I wrote on Politico.com, "Businesses will, in effect, be forced to send employees into the Democrats' government-run health care."
This completely goes against the President's claims that if you like your health care plan currently, you will not be forced to switch. It also raises eyebrows here in Louisiana, as we have seen over the years how well federal government run programs have worked following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. And also, the Congressional Budget Office has shown that the proposal will not reduce government spending on health care, and will in fact substantially increase our nation's deficit even in the face of the Democrat's proposed tax increases.
It is no secret that our nation's health care system needs significant reform, but the current plan being pushed by Washington Democrats is not the way to do so. For a fiscally sound, common sense approach to reforming our health care system, I encourage you to read my bi-partisan plan in the Wall Street Journal. Read More » Honoring our Veterans Last week we handed out more than 660 Louisiana Veterans Honor Medals at ceremonies in Opelousas, Leesville, Henderson, and Jennings. Our veterans deserve he utmost honor and respect, and it gives me great honor to present our veterans with these medals. As the Jennings Daily News reported, "Louisiana is only the second state to create such an honor for its veterans."
At the ceremonies we were able to honor veterans dating back to World War II, and, as I said in the Lafayette Daily Advertiser, "we must always be thankful for the sacrifices they have made on behalf of us and our country."
We were also able to visit Bossier City, Natchitoches, Quitman, and Slaughter as part of the Louisiana Working Tour last week. The tour continues to provide a great avenue for spreading the word about our states three main priorities, which, as reported in the Shreveport Times, are "jobs, jobs, jobs." Read More »
